‘The terrible decisions of both the main political parties have just hardened my support for the Liberal Democrats’
I have lived in Chiswick for over 20 years and have been an active member of initially the Liberals and then the Liberal Democrats all my adult life. My degree in Mathematics and my subsequent PhD drew me initially to the party believing that the country needed a fairer voting system.
Over the years the terrible decisions of both the main political parties, for example most recently Brexit, have just hardened my support for the Liberal Democrats.
My first job was in Manchester but my work in IT over the years has brought me further and further south including prolonged stays in Solihull and then Surrey, both now heavily represented by Liberal Democrats.
Whether it helped the subsequent victories I’m not sure but I did knock on a lot of doors and deliver many LibDem leaflets during that time.
Hounslow would now benefit from the advantages of Liberal Democrat representation on the Council and their proven ability to get things done.
We are boxed in by the London areas of Richmond and Ealing now well represented by Liberal Democrats. Across London councils and wider afield we see initial Liberal Democrat victories leading to further gains as the evidence of their impact on improving local services, the environment, education and GP provision is seen and appreciated.
We now need to see that improvement here in Chiswick and Hounslow.
I am now retired. I love living in Chiswick with its access to the river and its many open spaces and parks. I have four children, three with grandchildren, all now living not too far from London. This certainly makes you appreciate the issues of education and support for families.
As regards my other interests, I have an allotment on Dukes Meadows and play Bridge whenever I can, usually at a Club in Richmond. As a regular cyclist I appreciate how much better the road surfaces are in Richmond, thank you Richmond LibDems.
The Liberal Democrat manifesto for Hounslow shows our commitment to tackle:
- The Cost of Living, ensuring a fair council tax and help for those who need it most.
- The Homes and Housing problem, making sure we build affordable homes, ensuring developments benefit communities.
- Health and Social Care, support for care workers, helping residents live independently
- Transport and Our Streets, safer walking and cycling routes, repairing roads and pavements.
- Opportunities for Children and Young People, fight for school funding, rebuild youth services.
- Climate, the Environment and Clean Air, ensuring future generations in Hounslow are protected.
- Safer Communities, residents need to feel safe in their own community.
- Local Economy and the High Streets, revitalising High Streets and supporting local businesses.
- Equality and Inclusion, everyone must have the opportunity to feel included and part of their community.
I am proud to be standing as a Liberal Democrat candidate in Chiswick Homefields.
