After a 16-year absence, Liberal Democrats in Hounslow are celebrating a return to Hounslow Council with a breakthrough in Isleworth ward.

After a tense recount late Friday afternoon, Roger Crouch was elected as a new councillor for Isleworth ward having ousted Labour Chief Whip John Stroud-Turp by a mere 19 votes.

Crouch hailed the return of Liberal Democrats to Hounslow Council and said his election laid the foundations for success in future elections. In a social media post Crouch stated his, "thanks to residents, neighbours, and friends of Isleworth” for electing him as a councillor and stated he would “work constructively and collaboratively" with his Labour ward colleagues.

Across Hounslow, Liberal Democrats, having put forward candidates in every ward, recorded an increase in their share of the vote and were pleased with creditable results in the Hounslow South and Chiswick wards.

As well as being a ward representative, Crouch will have a role in scrutinising the decisions of the Labour Council and ensuring they are held to account in the delivery of services to residents.  With losses to other parties across the borough, Crouch stated that, "residents pay high levels of council tax and expect high quality services. Too often concerns have been dismissed by this Labour Council. I will be making sure that residents get the services they expect and need."
