Post offices - maiden speech seconding the motion

Speech by Cllr Drew Morgan-Watts delivered to London Borough of Hounslow Full Council on Tue 30th Jan 2007

It is with sadness that I have to second a motion were there should not be a need.

Post offices are a vital part of the community and if we sit back and ignore this issue and allow the Government to go head MORE local community post offices will close in Hounslow.

Hanworth was one of the areas to lose one of its post offices when a large supermarket chain moved in 2005. Now, fortunately, the people in Hanworth Ward have a brand new Post office, which the Liberal Democrats worked long and hard to get with the support and hard work of the local community.

The post office is a vital service that many in the community find invaluable.

Therefore I urge you to agree this motion and support us in reminding our MP's of their responsibility to the local community rather than national government.
