Support Watermans 100% - Urgent appeal12.00.00am GMT Sat 22nd Dec 2007
Watermans has been threatened by the Arts Council with the loss of its grant. This would come into effect almost immediately so Watermans would have to make immediate cut-backs in their programme. The people of West London will lose nearly £500,000 that would be spent on Participative Arts, New Media Arts and Asian Arts. Cllr Andrew Dakers, Leader of Hounslow Liberal Democrats and Brentford ward councillor, said: "Watermans is an amazing arts resource for Brentford, Hounslow and West London. As a local Lib Dem councillor - despite what the Arts Council says - I am confident that Hounslow Council's support remains solid. "Furthermore cross-party we are all committed to seeing Watermans relocate to new facilities in a regenerated Brentford town centre. In fact after a year spent determining the community vision for Brentford town centre - which puts Watermans at the heart of the redeveloped south side of Brentford High Street - I believe there is more support for this than ever before." Cllr Dakers added: "Watermans have been advised that the Arts Council is on very shaky ground with this decision and a large show of popular support will help the appeal. If you would like to see Watermans get its grant reinstated please support them by lending your name to the campaign." Please sign the online petition (link below).
