LETTER: The Tories let us down, its time for change - Simon Martin12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 5th Jul 2007 Dear Editor, The letters in The Hounslow Chronicle (21 June) from Conservatives extolling their successes over the last year showed what an empty year it has been. The Conservatives have achieved nothing for Hanworth Park and as far as the leaflets they have distributed so far they seem to be promising more nothing in the future. Hanworth Park and Feltham deserves more than the tired old politics of the conservatives and Labour. As a local Lib Dem councillor I would work with colleagues in Hanworth and Bedfont to promote the area at the Council. I would campaign to improve the quality of life for all in the area and look forward to representing all in Hanworth Park. Since last May the Lib Dems on Hounslow Council have: - secured support for the defence of our remaining local post offices with a motion to Hounslow Borough's full council. - proposed a rapid action plan to protect our environment and reduce Hounslow's CO2 emissions. 12 months on from the election and the so-called Green Tories have yet to produce even a draft environmental plan. - highlighted the waste of tens of thousands of pounds by the Tories on the Knox D'Arcy consultants report. - challenged the Tories' two hundred thousand pounds in cuts to investment in our local parks, leisure centres and libraries. It's important that we remember that this by-election has been caused by a local Conservative member being unable to stay the course - seemingly unsupported by his party leadership. Hanworth Park deserves councillors who have the determination and support to see things through. Yours sincerely, Simon Martin Lib Dem Candidate for Hanworth Park
