Brentford & Isleworth Constituency Liberal Democrats have tonight reselected Andrew Dakers as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Brentford & Isleworth Constituency. Andrew Dakers is Councillor for Brentford ward and Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Hounslow Council. Andrew has worked professionally for the BBC, the United Nations, GlaxoSmithKline and most recently WWF-UK, the environmental charity.

Speaking to local party members Cllr Andrew Dakers said:

"I grew up in Brentford, made my first friends at a nursery in Chiswick, attended my first school in Isleworth and I still live and work in the constituency. Its these local roots that make me so passionate and determined about making Brentford, Chiswick, Hounslow and Isleworth safer, greener and fundamentally better places to live.

"In 2005 as your parliamentary candidate, working hard with all of you, I helped deliver our best result since 1910 on an unprecedented swing of 9.3%. Brentford & Isleworth Constituency is now a three-way marginal.

"That was good. But next time we can do even better. I believe the opportunity is there for the Liberal Democrats to win this constituency."

WHAT EXPENSES WOULD ANDREW DAKERS CLAIM?

"Let me pledge now to …stand by the commitment I made at the last election. If elected I will not claim the additional expenses allowance of more than £15,000/ annum taken by "Mr & Mrs Expenses" Alan and Ann Keen. Living in the constituency, just 9 miles from the city centre, I will use public transport to go to work, like most people do.

"If elected to represent this constituency in parliament, my door will be open to all residents, councillors and the supporters of all parties' in this constituency. As I do today, I will continue to work constructively with the local authority."

ANDREW DAKERS' GREEN COMMITTMENT

"I am immensely proud to be councillor for Brompton bicycles who produce 17,000 folding bicycles each year in Brentford - a key contribution to a future low carbon economy. Thus it seems appropriate that if elected at the constituency's next MP I am committed to striving to be the greenest MP in the country, pushing the boundaries and articulating new ideas to tackle climate change."
