Kramer warns government of airport resistance

12.00.00am GMT Thu 14th Dec 2006

Commenting on today's aviation review by Ministers Susan Kramer, Lib Dem MP for Richmond Park, said:

"We have been told that the consultation on the third runway will be followed by a consultation on a 6th Terminal and on ending runway alternation, the scheme that gives us half a day of relief from aircraft noise.

"Plans to rebuild Terminals 1 and 2 which are also in the pipeline effectively clear a site for Terminal 7. The Government's determination to constantly expand Heathrow is relentless.

"We really are tired of the Government's disinterest in both local people and the environment whenever it comes to satisfying the airline industry.

"This is a runway too far and the Government will find it has a fight on its hands as local people try to protect a decent quality of life from noise and air pollution."
