Hounslow Lib Dem support grows in 2006 - Tories flatline & Labour collapses12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 20th Jun 2006
A recent report by the Electoral Reform Society shows Hounslow Liberal Democrats are not just performing well in this borough, but they are one of the party's groups with the fastest growing supporter base in the whole of London. The report also showed how even under their new leader the Conservatives are continuing to flat-line in Hounslow with no improvement on their vote share in last year's general election. Meanwhile support for Labour continued to plummet. The report's title "The great vote swindle" summed up its overarching message that their remains a huge gulf between votes cast and each party's total number of councillors. FASTEST GROWING LIB DEM SUPPORTER BASES IN LONDON 1 - Harrow +17.3% (to 19.7% vote share - blunder in 2002 with ballot papers - so arguably should be excluded from this ranking!) 2 - Brent +11% (to 28% vote share) 3 - Richmond +8.6% (to 44.9% - Susan Kramer MP and Vince Cable MP) 4 - Haringey +8.5% (to 35.2% vote share - Lynne Featherstone MP) 5 - Lewisham +5.8% (to 24.4% vote share) 6 - Hounslow +5.7% (to 19% vote share) (% growth since 2002 - there are 33 London boroughs) Related Links:Local Votes Swindle, Electoral Reform Society, 14 June
