After five years a Convent Way family is still waiting for "Locata" to relocate them to a home with enough space

Despite the refurbishment works underway at Convent Way some of the residents are angry about the cramped conditions they have to live in. Satnam Kaur Khalsa, Lib Dem council candidate for Heston West is calling on Hounslow Homes to review its methods of allocating housing.

"It was upsetting to hear a young mother of two talk of her plight of waiting for a decent home," Satnam Kaur Khalsa said during a visit to the Convent Way.

"This family of four lives in a one bedroom flat and are on the housing list with Priority Date 11/04/2001. She cannot understand that people with Priority Date of 29/08/2002 and who are in the same Priority Band of C as her family, were housed before her.

"The mother asked me: 'What good do the external works do to me when I have not enough room for my girls?' I ask the council and Hounslow Homes the same question."

Notes to editors

This family of four has been waiting for a two bed room house for over 5 years. The older girl aged 5½ sleeps in her parent's room and the 3 years old in a cot in the living room. There is no room for playing as the living room is full of furniture including the cot and a dining table. They have been using the 'Locata Home' magazine (www.locata.org) to bid for a bigger home, but so far with no positive result. No explanation has been offered to them why they have to wait this long.
