A real chance for a real change in Feltham and Heston

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 8th May 2001

Andy Darley, Liberal Democrat general election candidate for Feltham and Heston, has welcomed the start of the general election campaign.

He said:

"The waiting is finally over and we can all get stuck into spelling out the serious choices that Britain faces.

"People are disappointed with Labour and continue to distrust the Conservatives, so this election will provide a real chance for a real change - and a real opportunity for the Liberal Democrats.

"The message from local residents is clear - there must be more investment in services such as health, education and a better deal for pensioners. But at the same time, people want to be told the truth about these improvements will be paid for."

The news of the election date came on the day that the Independent newspaper launched its election website - which features a campaign diary by Andy Darley.
