Chiswick Riverside by-election - Rustad

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 13th Apr 2001

Commenting on the result of the Chiswick Riverside by-election, Liberal Democrat candidate, Paul Rustad said:

"I am pleased to have been able to confirm our position as the only credible alternative to the Conservatives in Chiswick Riverside in the teeth of a strong Labour campaign aimed at dragging them up from last place.

"During the campaign I met many local residents and want to thank them for the warm welcome they gave me. I will continue to work hard for this area in the years to come.

"As the three parties reflect on the recent run of by-elections in Hounslow Borough it will be obvious to all that, as the only party to capture a seat from an opponent, it is the Liberal Democrats who have the most to celebrate."
