South of Brentford High Street Development

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 5th Apr 2002

The Liberal Democrats believe the redesign of our High Street should be a positive process that brings our community closer together as we protect the best of our heritage and shape our common future.

Local campaigner, Andrew Dakers, commented:

"Our disappointment with Labour is that the redevelopment has been allowed to divide the community and has ended up going to enquiry.

"Liberal Democrats would work collaboratively with the community from the earliest stages of any major development through idea generation workshops. We would seek development partners that will let the community decide its future.

"We must support the UK's international commitments to reduce global warming. Lib Dems would encourage developers that want to go beyond existing legislative requirements for the energy efficiency of new and refurbished buildings."
