LETTER: Planning inspectorate shows disregard for the environment and the people of Hounslow

12.00.00am GMT Tue 2nd Nov 2004

Sir - Your article "Planning lunacy destroys wildlife" in the Hounslow Feltham & Hanworth Times, dated October 29, raises important questions regarding the purpose of the planning inspectorate.

This is the second time in recent weeks that the inspectorate has shown disregard for the environment and the people of Hounslow. First they decided to allow the bulldozing over of a number of houseboats over the Grand Union canal and its rich habitats in favour of a bridge for lorries; and now they are allowing the destruction of green spaces in Feltham.

The planning inspectorate clearly does not want to build in an environmentally-friendly manner. They appear to be hostile to the ideas of protecting our wildlife and green spaces. There is an urgent need for transparency as to why the inspectorate is overturning these local decisions. I strongly believe that it is time to call the planning inspectorate to account.

If you would like to add your name to the petition and help defend our green spaces please email me at satnamkaurkhalsa@btinternet.com

Yours sincerely
